I am trying to match an old growth mahogany table top with a more affordable trestle base and I wondered if anyone had any suggestions about what wood might work well or stain well to match. Suggestions about materials and finishes/ methods would be very welcome.

Why not use a more ordinary Honduran Mahogany, not the cheapest wood to be sure, but likely to give the most satisfactory match.
