In the back of the book on Marquetry by Pierre Ramond page 225 he shows a Balance Arm jigsaw. Do’s anyone still make a saw like this ? do’s anyone have one or have you used one. Is it a good way to go for conical cutting marquetry.

I don't know anything about the saw you mention. BUT I'M GLADE TO HEAR THE SAW CALLED A JIG SAW because that's what they were called originally, in my day, because they were used to cut jigsaw puzzles. What is commonly called a jig saw today was introduced as a sabre saw. I don't know how the mix-up came about. My 2 cents.
Well I have heard the "Jig Saw" Sabre saw bit before, but I have never heard a "Scroll Saw" being called a Jig saw. You point sounds logical but this is something I have never heard. Back in the late 70s early 80s (ok so I am not that old) they were allready calling them Scroll saws around here (including an early 80's shop class). But we still will mix up sabre saw and jig saw depending on who you talk to.

You talking about a Chevalet (Marquetry Donkey)?

One of the top Marquetry guys uses a Excaliber scroll saw. He has a Chevalet but hardly uses it.
Get his DVD. Normally I can't stand watching video woodworking but Kopf's is definitley watchable.

I have never seen a saw like that for sale. I have a fair amount of experience with marquetry, both with power saws and hand saws. There are a few power scroll saws that have good reputations. At the low end, the DeWalt 788 works well. (I have one) Hegner, Ecclipse, and RBI Hawk saws are all considered good saws. All can be found using Google search.
Good luck, Tom.
Thanks Tom77 I will take a look
