Anyone every use one of those manual, foot operated miter trimmers that you see in picture framing shops? I just had a chance to try one out (an old German one that they picked up for $400 at an auction). It was pretty nice. One good stomp and I was cutting miters in 5″ wide walnut, with perfect alignment, no noise, no dust.
If I saw one at an auction or old tool sale, I’d be very tempted.
BTW, these are different from the Lion trimmer. The guillotine travels vertically, and they have a pair of blades (90 deg angle) mounted on a super solid cast iron head.

I have a JA Fay & Egan miter trimmer manufactured in 1924. Foot pedal, all cast iron, that will trim up to 6 1/2" wide. Very accurate and leaves a smooth cut.

That's basically similar to what I saw in this frame shop.
Do you mind if I ask how you found it and about what it sold for?

I found it at the local lumber yard. Went to purchase 1200 bf. of Khaya and in the back corner of the warehouse sat a bunch of machinery. The stuff had been there collecting dust/rust for 18 years after they moved to this location. They said it was all useless equipment that would never be utilized again. Made them an offer of $300 for the PM 221 planer, Delta 25" Unidrill, Moak 36" bandsaw and they threw in miter trimmer. It's complete and operational except for a broken handle for the fence adjuster.

Holy !@#!@ DJK, I hope you feel guilty at least!Steve
What was the brand of the trimmer? How does it work? Sounds like an interesting piece of equipment. Anything similar still made today?
Thanks,

Alan,
They're still made.
Here's one I looked up on the internet that gives the idea.

Upper blade is connedted to the foot pedal and moves down when the foot pedal is pressed.
