Makita 1011 blade break repair help
I have a Makita Ls 1011 mitre saw and recently the blade break has stopped working. I replaced the brushes, this did not help.
To be a bit more clear when I let go of the trigger, the blade should stop. Now it just free wheels until it cycles down.
Any additional thoughts? I had the motor apart, but could not see any obvious bushings, worn parts etc.
Thanks,
Greg

Sounds like a switch problem to me, on some saws releasing the trigger reverses the current to brake the blade .Look for secondary switching .I am not familiar with that specific saw but it might be worth exploring that possibility
Greg:
There are specials brushes for saws with electric brakes . Are the brushes Makita brushes purchased from a Makita dealer? If not try using OEM parts, or you can call makita service at 1800-4MAKITA, and they should be able to help you out. One other thing . What blade are you using on that saw? is it a thin kirf? it should be otherwise the momentom of a heaver blade will keep rotating when switch is released.
Thanks for the replies.
Ben1109, yes the brushes were from Makita, I'm lucky enough to have the Canadian HQ, about 10 min from my house. I thought I'd try the forum here to save me the trouble, and down time of dragging the saw in for repair. I've had it for 10 years or so, and really didn't want to see it leave my shop.
Jako, thanks for the reply, I suspect your on the money, as I did break down and take it in, and the man at the counter explained the same concept. I'll be a bit put off if it was only dust in the switch.....
Thanks again.
