My 18″ band saw does not have an off the shelf riser block for it. I was wondering if anyone out there has built there own. I was thinking about rasing it 5″ to get 12″‘s of resaw.

I've done it with square tube stock with ends welded on and some alignment pins to keep it in position. Had the ends machined square and parallel on a bridgeport. Certainly a feasible project. Even did a 10" Rockwell BS with a stack of MDF to get 12".

Scott,
It's a long shot, but the surfaces on a riser for a 14 inch saw are 3 1/4" wide by 4 1/2" deep by 6" tall, your 18" is probably a lot larger.
In addition to the riser you will need a longer rear blade guard and a longer support rod for the upper guides, though you could get away without the longer rod if you never intended to saw stock less than 6 inches thick. Don't use the saw without a rear guard, it's too easy to forget the blade is there.
Just curious, an 18 inch saw with only 7 inches of cutting height? What make and model saw is it?

I think it is a Busy Bee. It is old and did not come with an ID marks. I am not worried about the gaurd as I have a fittings to make it cover the balde up 13".Scott C. Frankland

Interesting saw, looks just like a clone of a Delta 14 inch. I did a quick search on the Old Woodworking Machine site but didn't see anything like it. Is there anything on the label on the lower door that would give a clue to its maker or whether it is an American machine or an import? Sorry to bother you with questions but I'm an old machinery buff.

No I stripped most of it down and have found nothing. I plan on stripping it down and painting some day. It is just that every time I get the time the time disappears.Scott C. Frankland
