I purchased the Makita MAC700 kit – the compressor and AF505 Brad Nailer. I have used it a handful of times and really like it.
I have 2 questions.
1 – once filled up and I begin using it – then put the nailer aside for a while the compressor suddenly comes on, as if the thing is losing pressure just sitting there. Is this normal?
2 – was using the compressor yesterday, finished working, thought I would go back a few hours later, did not. Went to use it this morning and the tank emptied out over night. Is this normal?
Or do I have faulty, leaking compressor?

Both are pretty normal happenings.
You can use Teflon tape on the screw together fittings to help the leakage problem, but you will probably still have some leakage. Normal procedure is to detach the air hose from the compressor at night, usually with quick connect fasteners and to drain the tank each evening. Now most of us do not drain the tank each night but that is the recommended procedure. Do turn off the compressor each night and detach the hose for safety reasons. Probably you will still have leakage overnight and should expect the compressor to kick in as soon as you turn it on in the morning. It's just the way they work.

Run the compressor up and mix up some dish soap and water and soap all the connections the pipe from the pump to tank and the flexible to the unloader ..Also any welds .If you have a leak you will see bubbles, many of them, with 120 lbs in the tank. Then connect the hose and soap the couplings. If it is the gun just listen at the trigger and exhaust.
