Try knocking it out and cleaning the morse taper and reinserting it. On my Delta there is a small wedge tool that fits in a slot and you give it a tap and the morse taper comes out. I'm not certain if the taper should be lightly oiled or not.

I was going to use your suggestion and then decided to try retightening nut & lock washers, 54 & 55 and found you have to set these very precisely . That took the sideways slop out of it! thank's a lot to all.
Just looked at the tool mentioned above. It came with the 17-900. It looks like aluminum but is too heavy to be aluminum. It's 1/4" by 1" by 4 1/4 inches long with a hole in one end and a 15degree slope on the other starting 2 inches from the end with hole in it. Don't know if the morse taper is loose and the cause of your problem but it's worth a try.
Ask John White, he knows all.
Do you mean the chuck and spindle move? If that is the case have you checked the spindle nut (#67) to see if it is tight?
