I recently purchased an antique Maple Dinning room set.
Everything is in quite good shape except for a couple loose layup seams(making the surface area wider) on the table and china cabinet.
What is the best way to fix those seams? I’m cautions about trying to further break the seam and possible causing tear out of the adjoining wood.
I will be refinishing them when the repairs are done.
Thanks

Hi,
If I understand your question correctly, you have some edge to edge glue joints that are coming loose. If this is so, then all I can suggest is to try to squeeze some glue into the joint, work it in with a thin piece of paper, and clamp it even and together. It might work.
If it doesn't then I would cut the top apart and reglue it before refinishing. Good luck. Gary

That was what I come up with, but since the break in the seam is on the side of a slide out extension for the dinning room table I thought that I might try drilling down the center of the seam (from the side), insert glue, followed by a wood plug the same size of the drill hole.
After thinking about it however, I think your idea of cut down the seam and doing a complete reglue would be best.
