I’m building a cross-cut sled for a Unisaw based on plans from Rex Alexander (FHB#140). He recommends installing a 1/4″ Lexan blade guard (to deflect sawdust – it shoots right up). Who has bought Lexan in NH/southern ME? or thru mail order?

http://www.mcmaster.com sells it. Also a google search will turn up many plastic suppliers and let's not forget the yellow pages under plastics. Plenty of places that will sell small pieces. I can often go to my local plastic suppliers and get scraps in their off cut bin.
Why would sawdust shoot straight up with this and not under normal conditions? I made one for my saw and it doesn't really do anything different.
Stop in at the local glazer (glass repair guy) and ask if he has any scrap Lexan laying around. Many times they use Lexan as replacement windows in high-breakage areas. DO NOT use plexiglass. Plexi will shatter like glass where Lexan will only bend.
