Hi everyone!
Anybody out there has ever own or use a Legacy Ornamental Lathe?
It is a router based tool for making complex turnings like rope and barley twists.
I figure that spindles for just one really fancy staircase would make it pay for itself.
Thanks!

The Legacy has come up a very few times in the past. Here, this'll get you started:

The legacy systems are fairly expensive and you'll need to feed it some router bits too which raises the cost more. In general, I think you are right about the payback but it might take more spindles than you think and perhaps more of your own time than you realize.
I have more info on the legacy on my webpage if you are interested.

Thanks forestgirl and Phil B!
I received some router book years ago. In the back, they cobled together a legacy like machine out of plywood and bicycle parts. They showed a picture of a flame finial that it had made. A heck of a lot cheaper than a legacy.
Anyhoo! got to go. Thanks again!
Hello
I own a Legacy
let me say, Yes it was expensive, but what isn't today.
There machine is one of the best wood working machines I've ever found. It not only dose turnings (twists, flouts, tappers...) but also dose a great job on plaining, making moldings, and mortising.
it is the easiest machine I've ever seen to remove a twist from a boards, As a matter of fact, since I've bought my legacy I haven't touched my jointer. I find the Legacy easier and faster to use.
plus for those turners out there, you can add to your tunings details you would be hard pressed to do on a lathe.
I've taken table legs I bought at a garage sale and put mortises in them so I could use them in a project. (Have you tried to adding a mortises in a finished leg? Its easy with this machine.)
Now the Legacy isn't a perfect system, but It really works for me.
Have a good day.C.A.G.
