Hi all. I’m getting a lathe delivered on Monday and need some advice. Do you have yours up against a wall or like a bench feel the need to be able to access the back.

mine is
Mine is almost against a wall. I've never felt a need to access the back side, other than cleaning up the shavings from the floor.
But, if you plan to do "outboard" bowl turning, you might want to allow more space.

Mine is about 75 degrees off the wall. I do a lot of bowls and it makes it a lot easier to work from the back side so I can easily see what I am doing.
Also don't have any windows behind you.

Good advice, particularly if the Russians, the Mafia, or the CIA are after you. ;-)
Or in my case . . .
. . . the Paparazzi.

In my case I have to use my metal lathe in a windowless bunker in an undisclosed location just to get some peace. It is against the wall by the way.
