Hey all,
Where can one buy “good” laminate to create a router table top. I’m looking for a good quality, nice surface (not the countertop laminate at Lowe’s). Any help is appreciated.
thanks,

check with nevamar, formica, or wilsonart for a local dealer. There are many variations of laminate to suit your preferences. Be aware, there are 3 types of laminate, its late and their proper names escape me at the moment, horizonatal, post forming, and vertical.. The horizontal one will hold up better for a work surface, post forming next, and vertical is the thinnest used for vertical apps.
I have nevamar white post forming on my TS extension table and outfeed table, and it has worked fine. This will probably be the most available type.
Check the yellow pages for laminate suppliers. When you go there, ask if they have any sheets that are damaged. They usually sell them cheaper than full price. When I got the laminate for my extension table (which has my router in it), we looked around for something other than turquoise or salmon) and found a sheet of the thickest kind, in black. $10 for a 5'x10' sheet with a 2"x5" ding on one of the long sides. Normally $1.10/sq ft.
"I cut this piece four times and it's still too short."
Check the local yellow pages under cabinet shops. Find one that is a real cabinet shop, not just a buyer and installer of pre-builds. I found many that would sell me cutoffs for a cheap price. Depending on the size you need this might work. You can't be picky on color. I ended up buying a whole sheet from them because the cutoffs were not big enough for what I needed. My table was a decent sise. Good luck.
You might even try the yellow pages check under countertops , you will probably find a shop that does laminate work . They usually have sink cutouts @ 21" x 31" that may work out or a piece the right size from stock on hand .
good luck dusty
laminate suppliers also will give you "cover sheets" they put ratty old funky sheets on top / bottom of skids to keep the good sheets nice.
