I’m a newbie with limited funds and really liked the design of the router table in the April, 2004 issue. But I’m having a problem understanding the cutouts for the sacrificial block. The diagrams don’t seem to match the photos. The cutout on the Melamine back is 4″ wide but shows a “step” on the miter – 5″? I guess I just don’t understand how the stop block and cutouts go together. Everything else in the plan is clear.
I’d appreciate any advice.

Jonna,
The block is five inches wide and goes into a five inch wide opening in the table top. The slot in the vertical back piece, which is to allow room for the collet and bit, is only four inches wide, the steps in the top edge of the back piece allow the five inch wide block to span over the upper edge of the four inch wide opening.

Thanks John
For some reason, I understand written descriptions better than pictures, so I really appreciate the help.
