Hi,
Any info on these things? I just bought a KK No.7 plane which is pretty cool. Not quite a Bedrock or LN but the frog attaches in a fashion that’s like a hybrid between a Bailey and Bedrock.
The one I found is in excellent condition. The original blade is as thick as a Hock and has a wonderful logo to boot.
I’ve been Stanley blind for years but was attracted by the condition of this particular one.
Can’t wait to give it a spin!

I don't know anything about them, but a quick tour of the web revealed this:
"Keen Kutter Planes marked with a single letter and then the # size are actually early style Bedrock planes made for them under contract by Stanley. They are of the same high quality and in general much harder to find. These planes date from near the turn of the century to about the teens. Keen Kutter KK series planes were made for them by a few different makers including Ohio Tool Co, and Sargent. Over the years Simmons switched back and forth using different manufacturers at different periods, I suppose because the bid for those years was more attractive. Sargent and later Ohio made the later versions with the Mahogany handles and 4 digit # or the no number varieties to identify the plane."
I'd be interested to hear how it works, I see them from time to time but I don't own one. Clean it up, take it for a few hot laps and let us know...
"I'd be interested to hear how it works, I see them from time to time but I don't own one. Clean it up, take it for a few hot laps and let us know..."OK,Took 2+ hours to grind and hone the blade! I recently got a LN 73 and that blade was hard and also took forever to make a mirror. This was almost as difficult. I then had to enlarge the mouth as it seems maybe there was mis matched parts although it looks 100%. When the blade was exposed just a few .001's" it had zero clearance. I beveled it exactly like the frog with some pain staking file work.Performance. Excellent so far. All I have on hand is oak and mahogany and it easily made 4 foot long transparent shavings. No chatter b ut not to be expected with those type of woods. I'll see if I can find some curly maple or something and give that a try. But it's usually for edge joining and nothing should pose too much of a challenge.A bit troublesome to adjust but seems to hold it well. I think they are a great bargain. This as stated was just excellent condition. I got it for $125 and at the show I was at I saw a couple others in that price range but not quite as nice. I also saw many #7 Baileys at about the same price and I think the KK will work out better. Can't beat that logo!N
Notrix,
I believe you've got an early bedrock plane there - enjoy.
