Ok, I’m planning on buying one borad foot of an extremely expsensixe (25 bucks per boardfoot!!!) wood known as kauri. Now i wont the perfect plan to show off this wood. I was thinking of making a box lid from it. any suggestions will help. Also i would like a finish that accentuates the grain thaks.

Ryan,
I bought some of the wood last year and made a pair of ring boxes and base for my son's wedding present. I thought the symbology of the longevity of the wood (50,000 years) would be appropriate for what I wished on the life of his marriage (and that his lasts longer than his mom and I did).
I inherited two more kids with the new marriage, and still have enough wood left (from 2 bd ft) to make them something equally special and symbolic when their day arrives.
The wood does take a deep, beautiful luster when highly polished and finished with oil (which I then overcoated with lacquer, polished with pumice and rottenstone, then waxed).
