………how many other “knotters” out there go up north for the summer? Just put the last “stuff” in the Tahoe. It’s like moving twice a year!!! Am I the only crazy one here?

James,
I'm up here all year long. Where do you summer?
Yeah me too. Are you in the Northeast Kingdom of VT? I'm in the Great North Woods of NH, mebbe should have been called The Great North Fridge!
Up here the locals call folks that winter in Florida snow fleas.............
:-)

I'm a northern, my whole life I been wondering about those
snow fleas (The actual ones).
What the heck are they?
What the in the name of all that's holy are they doing jumpin around
on top of a mountain in the middle of winter? Well I guess they are asking the same thing about me...
There are indeed snow fleas. They range from the Arctic to the Antarctic and are able to abnormally cold temperatures.
I've seen them jumping around on top of the snow on a warm winter day.
The others drive vehicles south to warmer climes to escape the cold, apparently lacking the antifreeze proteins.

Bob,
I'm on the western side, just outside of Burlington. It's nice here. We get to enjoy all 6 seasons. (Snow Shoveling, Sugaring, Mud, Mowing, Raking, and Hockey)
winter in burlington, vt and summer in westport, ny:)
when i say it like that it almost sounds like i have money.
Every day is a gift, that's why it's called the present.
Arnemckinley,
We have another Knothead from Burlington, and others not far away. We should set up a VT Knots get together.
grw,
i would definetely be interested in a west coast of new england knothead get together if it is something others are interested in.

Sounds good to me. Anyone else out there who is interested in a NE USA Knothead gathering? Let's say Fall '08.
Do I need a passport to enter The Peoples Republic of Vermont?
:-)

No passport needed Bob. Most of us can't read anyway.
Just kidding of course. I'm just over the big river and pass thru the northern tip of VT on the way to Canada.
It would be great to have a get together as I'm not able to attend Jeff Heaths cookout this summer. With the short warm season, as I'm sure you know, there's a lot of work to get done 'for snow flies again.
I've been to Burlington several times and it's really nice there right on Champlain and all. Seen any phish there letely?

I does my phishin' on a lake by the north border called Carmi. I'll be headed there with my phish pole, and cooler this coming weekend. One of those boys weekends that separates the week brain cells from the strong ones. When I get a chance I'll contact you off line about a NE gathering.
GRW: Holland, MI. It's a little cooler here in the summer.
James
James,
I have a friend from Ironwood MI. He tells horror stories about snowfalls there.
We get a little "Lake Effect" weather from the Ontario. Nothing like you get.
GRW
GRW: I haven't seen snow in years!!! We got up here Monday, the 12th. We don't do snow. We get south in Oct. if there's even a mention of snow or cold on weather reports. Our trip up this year was terrble. High winds (35-40 mph) and heavy rain from Chattanooga north. It's still too cold for me now in MI. Just "wimps" I guess.

I could spit in the Gulf of Mexico from my house.
Why on earth would anyone go north for anything????
Lee :-)
"I could spit in the Gulf of Mexico from my house."
I started living close to that same gulf coast in 1993. After ten years of suffering what must be the world's most miserable climate, I moved about 5000 miles north east one summer, ... and never returned.
I'd never realised until then how easy it is to not miss a place until I got away from Houston, ha, ha. Slainte.Richard Jones Furniture
Been to Houston. Left Houston. Did not get a T-shirt. Houston would make anyone want to go anywhere else.
However, I agree w/ Mapleman. There is nothing better than wearing shorts & flip-flops on New Years Eve shooting fireworks. Cotton does not itch near as bad as wool.

Take more than a little water to run me off. But, to each his own.

Why North? Gee, here in NE Ohio we have all the hardwood we want. Black Walnut,Black Cherry,Red/White Oak,Hickory,Ash, Soft and Hard Maple, Elm,Sycamore, Beech,Box Elder, some Black Birch, Yellow Tulip(Poplar),Box Wood, Sassafras, Hornbeam, Horse Chestnut. And lots of SNOW for an excuse to work in the shop and six months of not having to mow grass.

OK Bruce, those are very valid points that I may have overlooked.
Lee, stuck in the land of Southern Red Oak and Southern Yellow Pine (and not happy about the choices!) :-)
I'm with you, Lee. I'm in SW FL, Arcadia, and only want to head south of here. Lee Grindinger had it right, and moved to the Virgin Islands. That made me jealous.
Now if Star Trek was real, I'd beam up to see the snow, look for five minutes, and then beam back before I froze.
Flips, shorts and a t-shirt, what a life!

Flips, shorts and a t-shirt, what a life!
Especially on Christmas Eve!
Cheers,

Lee,
And on New Years.............
Jumping into the hottub when it's 0° and snowing can really give you a lift!

That tub does have a heater doesn't it ;-)Work Safe, Count to 10 when your done for the day !!

Yes indeed. The invigorating part comes when you get out!

With no heater it would also be invigorating to get in. My old Chief Engineer was a Finn and used to run out after a Sauna and roll in the snow :-0Work Safe, Count to 10 when your done for the day !!

Jeeesh, if I lived there I wouldn't have any money! On the other hand I'd probably be called Woody!

Been in FL 4 years, it is pretty difficult to do wood working in the summer, the humidity makes the sweat just pour off you onto the cast iron tops of my equipment. Need to have Ac in the garage or build a basement, no wait can't do that either, even GFI won't work under water will it?
Mapleman: After living in FL since '53, I get out of the heat & HUMIDITY in the summers.
James
You guys are ALL down south compared to us in Alaska. Motorhomes are beginning to show up...
how many other "knotters" out there go up north for the summer? I just stay here! We have ALL the worlds weather!
I forgot... I live very near Chicago Il...
