I was just looking at the back cover of the April FW. A very striking bench by John Nesset is featured. The question I have is: What wood is it made of? The blurb does not say. I would guess a conifer, maybe a torutured Doug Fir? I dunno. Any guesses?

Looks like ash to me, I'll ask around and see if I can find the answer.
*I think you might be right Bill, now that I look at it with that in mind. I think that I was thrown by the sheer size of the slab, but the front edge sure does look "ashy" to me. Wow, that must have been some tree, if so. The larges ash I've ever worked with was only about 5", flat sawn.
