The 18x is not really that new.. Its been out for about a year now. The newest addition is the 18x-3 which is the 220v 3hp version.
Essentially, its the same as the 18B which was the first model change from the original 18 versions that were problematic with a really flimsy backbone. The 18x has yet another improved backbone that gets you that extra height. They've added a few bells and whistles like a better tensioner and a new fancy guide height gauge. The 18X-3 has a window that lets you see where the upper tire is tracking which is nice. The fence is still about the same and does include the re-saw bar which is the only way to go in my opinion.
One thing I did notice is that the welds on the new one seem to be better. They were having a problem with penetration on the older models. I got one in that was broken during shipping but I just ground it off, re-welded it and then bought it for myself (at cost of course).
For Re-Sawing the 3hp would be your best bet but keep in mind it is not a real re-saw just a bandsaw that is re-saw capable.
