Jet JJP-12 combination machine or???
I am wanting to upgrade some of the pieces of machinery I have. I have been considering a combination jointer/planer, possibly the Jet JJP-12. Does anyone have any experience with this machine or something similar? I am shifting away from kitchen cabinets and entertainment center type work and refocusing on furniture and home accessory type items. I thought the extra width for jointing would be nice, while at the same time freeing up a little space in my shop.

I got up close and personal with the JJP-12 and feel that it is a good stock prep machine but stops there.
The Fence will "gitterdone". But nothing like a good cast iron fence in the long run.
And the blade guard would take some getting used to for me.
Would I like one in my shop? You bet!

I have one for more then 6 month. Good machine, no complains. I do agreed that fence slightly frippery. And maybe later I will buy different set of knifes. But for my small shop it 's space saver.

Well I cannot comment on the Jet j/p combo, I can tell you that I have owned a Minimax J/P combo for about 4 years, an upgrade from smaller separate machines.
No issues with the fence it is built like a tank, changeover from jointing to planing takes about 30 seconds. The Minimax comes with Tersa knives, which allow you to install a new set of knives in about 90 seconds. The digital height adjustment on the planer is scary accurate.. And best of all the extra width on the jointer is the best thing since sliced bread. Additionally you can add a slot mortising attachment to most machines.
The downside to the machines is it does take time to keep changing over from jointer to planer, so it is best to batch the work. The tables on the jointer are usually shorter than a similarly sized separate jointer.
You owe it to yourself to look at all the European j/p combo's.
