Well, I broke down and spent the $$ for the JET AFS-1000B / 708620B Air Filtration System. It arrived from Amazon in just 3 days and was well packaged.
On testing, however, I noticed that the fan blades are horribly off-balance. The result is more wobble in the unit than I expect it necessary.
Have others observed this? Can it be adjusted? Is it defective?
Thanks

My unit is vibration free. I would try to have them replace the unit.

Michael -- So,... if you look at the fan blades through the back of your unit when you first turn it on, do they begin to turn without any obvious wobble?
I have not yet hung mine from the ceiling and am wonder if the vibration will "go away" once it is hung. The fan blades, however, visible wobble off center on start-up and the unit vibrates on the saw horses.
I have never looked directly at the blades. WTS, my unit does not vibrate noticeably, on start-up or after, except if I lightly touch the unit with my fingers, I can barely discern a slight vibration, a level acceptable for a $200 unit.
There should not be any noticeable wobble in the blades. _________________________________

Well... I hung it from the ceiling and it vibrates like crazy. I high speed, I am afraid it is going to break apart.
I'll be making a call to the manufacture tomorrow.
Thanks
You'll like a good unit. Works well at keeping ambient dust to a minimum._________________________________

I bought the same unit in January from Amazon. It sounded like a small Jet taking off.
I sent it back and they sent another one to replace it, It would not rotate, I played around with it and got it rotating. It sounded like a 747 taking off. Sent it back and recevied another one, this one works great. Jet must not have any Quality Control at all. Just send It back to amazon they are very good at these type problems.

I called the Jet people today and they seemed very familiar with the problem. They said the fan blade thingy was likely bent in shipping. They suggested I remove the fan blades and test it. If it runs well without the blades, they will just send me a new set of fan blades, if not, I should go for the new unit.
I think I would rather just have them send me the needed part versus gambling on new units.
Jet is 0-2. They sent me a second whole new unit. This one is worse than the first.
I disassembled and examined the fan blade mechanism. I unfortunately expect it is a manufacturing problem.

NC,
Makes one wonder what kind of people they employ and if it's worth the risk to purchase bigger machines from them.
A lot of competition in this business these days and I believe the old brand names will either be forced into fixing their quality, or they will eventually be in trouble.

I had over $6,500 worth of Jet Tools in my shop before I upgraded to MiniMax.
Did not have any problems with any of the tools and I still have their drill press, DC1000C and AFS1000. I would buy Jet again._________________________________

Michael,
Why did you have to upgrade to MiniMax?
Were the Jet tools to small, or were there other reasons?
Jellyrug
Because I could.
Nothing wrong with the Jet stuff, the MiniMax is simply better, and if you ever get the chance to use a Euro sliding table saw you'll see why._________________________________

Michael,
Ya, I must say those sliding tables do look nice.
Different subject, but where do you get your lumber in San Jose? I visited Global Wood Source a few days ago, but rather dissappointing in inventory and quality.

If all you need is a stick or two, Southern Lumber will have it, at extremely over-the-top prices. Aura Lumber is usually a waste of time unless you want Baltic/Finnish/Russian Birch.
In Watsonville is a company call Jackel Enterprises. Good stock and good prices. (http://www.jackelenterprises.com)
I buy most of my stock from Higgins Lumber in Livermore (http://www.higlum.com) Pro yard with pro pricing._________________________________

Thanks for the pointers. I'm in Gilroy and have been looking for a good source of hardwood. Been to southern a few times - but the next trip will be over the hill to watsonville. Thanks again.
The owner of Jackel, Bruce I think, is very knowledgeable and ready to work with you to find the right stick(s)._________________________________

In the event anyone is interested... I finally got this thing to work flawlessly. After the second faulty unit, the jet folks suggested the send me a new set of fan blades (squirrel cage). Installed them and it was good to go.
I honestly can not see how the blades could have been damaged in shipping, however, and must conclude a manufacturing problem. Perhaps that's how the knew what to recommend.
Disassembling the unit was pretty easy.
Works great now.
Thanks
I recently purchased the same unit and it has worked flawlessly. It sounds like you got a bum unit.
