Jet 6″ jointer infeed table problem
About a year ago I purchased a jet model JJ-6CSX jointer. It works great Today for the first time I wanted to take a deeper cut, to my surprise I couldn’t lower the infeed table! I tried doing this by turning the wheel under the infeed table. Is there anything else involved? could the gibs be adjusted too tight.
Any suggestions are welcome, thanks

My 6" delta has a positive lock at 1/8". I have to pull a pin to move the table up or down from there.
Tom-
There is a knurled knob directly below the infeed table and a smaller set screw type thing on the back of the machine that limits the depth. Hopefully this helps -I am at work and am trying to go from an ever poorer memory-

Doc, you're right... good memory... Release the stops first then crank it down and then up to achieve the correct depth of cut. Personally, I set mine to 1/32 and left it there. I just run the board through several times.
I know that sounds silly but it works for me and saves a ton of time.
Be sure to loosen the locking devices whenever you want to change the cut. The casting that moves the table is under a lot of stress and can be broken with a little too much force on the crank with the locks in place. I think there are actually 2 locks- check carefully to make sure. Also, make sure that the locks are secured once the table is located at the desired elevation. I've seen people move the machine by grabbing the tables (how else would you do it?) and the resulting tension could crack the elevation casting if the locks are not dogged down. Having replaced the casting on my table let me tell you it's not a fun job. No directions from JET on this, you're on your own! Have fun! Windy Wood

Thanks for taking time to help me, It worked! there is a recessed set screw located at 90 degrees rom the infeed wheel, when I loosened it the wheel turned and the table is adjustable. No mention of this in the jet operators manual. Hop I can be of some help in the future

This is something that bugged me from the get-go about the documentation that came with the Jet jointer. It's like they never considered the possibility that the person buying the jointer had never, ever used one before (me!). I've managed to adjust mine without breaking anything, but would have really appreciated it if they'd put a simple paragraph in: How to Adjust the Depth of Cut ("without Breaking your New and Treasured Jointer").forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
I just had a look at the documentation and you're right they never tell you specifically how to adjust the infeed table. However, if you assembled yours out of the box rather than buying it already put together, during that process you would have found where the locks were, etc. The assembly instructions point out all of the adjustment points, gibs etc., and in particular, the depth of cut limiter. You are right it was pretty stupid of them not to include a simple paragraph on setting the depth of cut as a subject of its own.
Mine was almost completely assembled, hence the cluelessness.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
