I’m thinking of taking a big step and purchasing the Jet 1642 EVS 2. It’s 2HP and 220 volt. Everything (almost) I’ve read raves about it. I really want the big brother Powermatic but even I can’t justify that.It can do anything I could imagine and I’m sure a lot more.
I can get it to my front door for $2200.
I’ve ruled out the Nova, big Rikon (I have the smaller one- Good but limited,) General, Oneway and Vicmarc as being just too expensive.
Can anyone out there comment on my thinking?

The 1642 2HP is on sale now through a Jet promotion for $1,699 delivered from Woodcraft, Amazon, and others. You might want to visit the Jet Web site and look for the link to the special. I ordered one myself and it is scheduled to be delivered today.
Greg-
Thanks so much!
I've been diddling around about buying the lathe for over a year now. If it weren't for your post I would have missed out on a great deal!I found the deal at TOOL ZONE that will ship WITH NO CHARGE RESIDENTIAL TAIL GATE DELIVERY, at the price you stated- $1699. Bought it! A few months ago I had my finger pausing on the purchase button for $2050 but didn't pull the trigger- Every once in a while that blind squirrel finds the acorn.(:-)

So glad that I could help! I think we'll both enjoy the purchase. Now you can mail my commission check to... ;)
I was thinking that I was a day late and a dollar short since the offer was only for as long as they had machines available and I hadn't heard anything for almost a week, but lo and behold the beast arrived Friday afternoon. ToolZone advertised it as shipping included along with residential AND drop-tailgate delivery all for the $1699.99 and that's how it was delivered. The driver was kind enough to use his pallet lift to position the lathe just where I requested. Since the package is 500 pounds this was appreciated.Got the legs on today with the help of a block and tackle. I'll be turning soon!(:-)

Glad to hear you got in on the deal. I have mine and I have set it up, but I have not turned anything yet. I want to put mine where I currently store some lumber, so I'm in the process of building another lumber rack. Soon though, I'll be turing too. Congratulations again!
I've had one (the 1.5hp version) for a couple of years and I think it's a real bargan.
One thing to be aware of is that it doesn't like GFCI Outlets. It will trip the breaker. I found this out when I recently upgraded my electrical service. I have talked to JET and they confirmed this. I still have non GFCI outlets available so I just use one of those and it works fine. Perhaps this has been fixed and because you are using 240 as input you probably wont have to contend with it.
