Hi, I’m a beinning woodworker, and am interested in attending some shows to see equipment and perhaps buy, and I’m wondering if the IWF is too industry oriented for someone like me? I don’t even have a decent table saw yet, and I thought a show would be a rare place to see a lot of them side by side, and perhaps get a good deal. Are there discounts to be had or is it largely to launch and advertise machinery for businesses?
thanks

IWF is definately geared toward business. The Woodworking Shows is the one geared more toward the hobbyist. It is usually in Atlanta in the early part of the year, was at the end of Jan this year. I beleive they have a website that lists the dates and cities.

There's a Woodworking Show in Pomona CA. April 23-25th . Good for beginners.

Agree with Tom that it is for business, but I would recommend it anyway. You won't walk away with bargains, but you will walk away amazed and with a lot of knowledge. The newest of the new will be there and machines you didn't know existed.
Sorry you missed the spring show here in Atlanta.

AT IWF you can find everything from factory scale machines to hobbyist scale gear. You can put your hands on and see demonstrated almost every kind of tool/hardware/etc. related to the woodworking industry available. But if you go be prepared to be overwhelmed. Wear your best walking shoes. Get a map and plan your route through the booths. It's a HUGE show. Not for anyone with trouble walking long distances.
I've been there for almost every show since the 70s when the show was in Louisville Kentucky, and am always impressed with the range of new products available or coming to market. If you go, stop by the "Design Emphasis" display where you might find me overseeing some of my student's furniture designs, as well as much of the best designed wood furniture by the nations most talented college students.
I say "Go.". Everyone needs to see that show at least once in their life.

HI Batorok,
I have never been but decided to go this year. You may want to think about booking a hotel room. When I booked last week some of the hotels for that weekend were already full.
As far as I can tell the "discount" air fares through iwf are for like $5. I may book a train as it it as least half the cost, but takes quite a bit longer.
I'm looking forward to it.
Bill
