Is it wise to put a drum sander on a wheeled base?
I am assembling a 22-44 Jet Drum Sander in my shop. I am wondering if assembling it on a sturdy platform with wheels for mobility is a good idea or a bad idea. It is extremely heavy and I doubt I could reposition it without a wheeled base. But I am worried that then the machine may be more subject to vibration and other unwanted movement.
Does anyone have some insight on this?
Thanks, Lavonne

Sander on wheels
I have the Woodtek 25" dual drum sander on wheels. Have to due to the limited size of my shop. Don't remember the name of the mobile base kit, but it is the one where you supply your own plywood base material. The kit comes with casters welded to a metal corner base, 2 with straight wheels and 2 with swivel wheels with foot operated lifting levers. I have not noticed any odd vibrations with my set-up. The only problem I have with the machine is inadequate dust collection. These machines really need to be hooked up to a cyclone. The kit is available from Woodcraft, where I got mine. Good luck and watch those fingers.
Drum Sander Casters
My Performax 16-32 came with locking casters and I have never had any problems. I do recommend at least two locking casters.
