All of a sudden– well in the last few days anyway, something seems to have changed here at Despairo. It used to be that if I saw a discussion I’d visited, and there were fresh posts, then I’d see in brackets next to the discussion title something like (250 posts, 3 new) and if I clicked on it I’d be shown the three new posts. Now it just says 250 posts, and if I click on it, it takes me to the original subject post. After that I have to scroll to the end of the first 20 posts, and select the last group of posts to view the three new ones, which will be posts 248, 249, and 250, but now, to get to them I have to scroll through all posts from 231 to 250 to see those last three new ones.
Am I making sense? Is it just me? And is anyone else experiencing the same weirdness? I haven’t changed my cookie settings, or anything like that, but this is strange.
Oh, by the way, if anyone wishes to expand on the subject, “Banana in, banana out, just a thinner banana. Discuss,” you’re welcome to, ha, ha– ha, ha, ha. Meanwhile– I think I need a drink. Slainte.

Hi Slainte,
I haven't got the definitive answer, but it sort of sounds like a deleted cookie. The only way they can know what posts you've read and which you haven't must be in the form of a cookie so perhaps you inadvertently tossed your cookies. :+) What you could do to see if they gave you a new one would be to read some discussion, close your browser, bring it up again and log back on to see if it remembers that you have read those posts. If not then I would contact our host. If so, then you just got a fresh chocolate chip cookie.

Sgian,
The short answer is no, it's not just you ..we all need a drink...lol.
That happens to me quite frequently and then I notice that the system has not taken my login for some reason( it'll have me in here as a 'guest'"). If I go into the messages (system) through my e-mail it never happens. When I log on through the web page its hit or miss. It dosen't surprise me...I can make boards cup and twist with one glance..how can a system resist my powers....lol
Yep, I get the same thing if I don't log on.

Yep!! I thought it was this old computer giving up. I am clueless with these things. My wife, who used to do this for a living says it's not the computer.
When I logged in a moment ago, it threw up the log-in box. She has it set so I don't go through the Taunton home-site. I started to click an it threw up the forum. I never had to log in. When I go to post this, it might throw up the log-in box again. I will see. Strange thing, these computers an systems.
Good Luck...

It's still weird. I went and cleared all my existing cookies from my hard drive, made sure my computer would accept cookies, and got back into Knots, signed up again and logged in. It's doing exactly as before in that I click on a topic and it takes me to the opening subject post after which I have to find the most recent posts at the end.
I've tried the 'Unread messages' selection, and it's the same with that. Well, I can live with it, but it's a bit less user friendly. Slainte.<p href="http://r-gjones.laof.home.att.net/" Website
Hi RJ,
System's working same as always for me - I have to log in each time and it only brings up unread messages (10 new of 18, etc)
Is the banana better or worse . . . . . . I don't know but it's still no good.
Confusion reigns supreme.

ps: here's the URL I use to get onto the site, perhaps that has something to do with it.

I've no problem. Yours is due to the feedback of photons and neutrinos that the sysop detects your deep seated sense of inferiority and is out to make your life miserable. Probably mine, too, since this site has slowed down to a snai's pace.
Can't help it, I just got done reading a goofy novel about computer hackers. L'chaim.
my screen got reset, but I put it all back where I wanted it. For me the fix was as simple as going to the left side and clicking show discussions with unread msgs. . .

There have been some changes over at Breaktime in order to deal with a computer facile troll which may have been implemented system wide at the Taunton boards. I'd give it a couple of days and see how it responds. If you are still having problems, email the Taunton sysop guys and they may be able to give you some tips.
