Im looking at a Jet JJ-6CSX that is used for $250. It has surface rust on the tables. I have not seen it in person yet..only pix. It is a white model so that tells me it is under 8 yrs old – I think that is when Jet changed colors.
Assuming that the tables are flat is the rust a problem? What is the bset method to remove?
Please advise.

Surface rust should not be a problem

Suface rust usually isn't a problem. I had a water pipe burst in my garage this past winter and it misteded the entire top of my tablesaw, also a Jet. It looked really bad, but "Topsaver", which was recommended by my local Woodcraft store, did a fantastic job of removing the rust. I would check the jointer out as best you can. Take a straight edge, small level, and a good square with you and check the tables and fence. I'd also run the thing if at all possible and take a good look at the cutterhead to make sure it isn't damaged, knives can be (and probably will need to be) replaced. $250 is a bargain, good luck with it.
