I’ve owned and used a Wagner/Capspray CS5000 HVLP turbine for about 16 years, and it’s finally quit. I never was satisfied with the performance, even with applying light materials, and except for having to buy a new sprayer, I’m relieved.
I have to purchase a replacement this week and am looking at four different, 4-stage models: the Graco 4900, Apollo 4000, Fuji 3004 Q4 and Titan TS50. I use my HVLP for remodeling and furniture and cabinet construction, and I spray virtually all finish materials.
Does anyone have experience and opinions about any of these models? Any assistance is mightily appreciated; my need to acquire a new unit is pretty much immediate. Zbalk

As I'm sure you already know, you can spend $100.00 or $1,000.00 and up on a gun/system.
In the professional end, I've used guns from the Binks 2001 gun, the Binks HVLP Mach 1 gun, up to now using the Binks Rapitor Airless Air Assist, which was $2,000.00.
Hands down, the rapitor sprays the best with the least amount of overspray. It's also great because I just put the rod with the strainer at the end right into a gal or 5 gal pail and away I go. The rapitor is comparable to the Kremlin airless air assist.
I was happy with the Mach 1 gun, but wanted to improve the quality of the finish and have less overspray. The rapitor is also great for onsite work too. Expect to pay about $300-400 for the Mach 1 and you'll need a hose too. I will never go back to a cup gun, except when spraying alcohol based aniline dyes.
I have an older Titan unit which I was never very pleased with. I spent considerable sums on maintenance and trying to have extra guns available (to use while others were in the rebuild shop). Finally I bought a new Accuspray ten gun. WOW! What a difference!!! I still use my old Titan turbine but over the last three years my maintenance costs have hovered near zero and my performance is vastly better (due to the new Ten Gun). I know that Accuspray equipment seems over hyped and too expensive... it's not though... worth EVERY PENNY!!! I am spraying a lot of material now... the shop is crammed with jobs. I may need to upgrade for my higher volume (or maybe just have a second unit available so that two mixes can be shot without cleaning up). I wouldn't even consider any of the units that you are looking at. I'll either get more Accuspray equipment or go the Kremlin route.
I have the Q4 (4 stage Fuji). THe trubine is powerfull. THe filter system is questionable (I added another filter to help). It is solid and well made. I am not sure about the gun. Seems like there could be better, though I've never used another one. Were I to do it again I would get a big air compressor and a conversion gun. The only advantages of the turbine are portability and no oil seperator/ air drier stuff.

Thanks Bigfootnampa and Mudman.
BigFN, I know what you're saying about sprayer maintenance and down-time. That's good to know about your experience with Titan. Been there and done that with my old Capspray.
Mudman, thanks for you feedback about the Fuji 4-stage unit. I'm seriously leaning that way and hope that their "new and improved" gun will perform as well as the turbine. I have other guns that I could rely upon. I just need some turbine "PAWER" and hope that the FUJI turbine will supply that.
Thanks again to you both. Zbalk
I went from compressor driven hvlp to the Aircoat air assisted airless machine by capspray, i love it exept for doing small jobs. i can suck out of a 5 gallon or use the 2 gallon hopper (which is what i normally use). virtually no overspray & no compressor needed. i bought mine refurbished for about $800 plus the hopper, & 25ft hoses. i'm not familiar with other makes but this one requires to change the tip depending on the fan width & material you desire. i spray mainly water based lacquers, poly & paints. take care!
What is your experience with guns for these machines? What do you have and what would you recomend and how much did they cost? I am seriously considering getting another gun. First I will try a smaller cap. It comes with a #5.

Zbalk; My Titan turbine was unable to supply enough air for good atomization with some materials (even with a freshly rebuilt gun). Now that I have an Accuspray ten gun the old Titan turbine never gets turned up all the way... the difference is in the gun... use any old turbine but get you an Accuspray gun. The Accuspray gun allows much more air flow internally and that makes all the difference. In addition with experience you'll find that the versatility of the Accuspray is astounding. Most users use only one or two aircaps and one needle/nozzle set for EVERYTHING. The adjustments at the gun are wonderful. I sometimes use mine like a big airbrush (finer than most detail guns) and sometimes like a production sprayer to really lay the product on quick and thick. It does both jobs excellently.
Thanks again to you all. I did the deed and ordered a FUJI 4-stage with the "new and improved" gun that accompanies it. We'll see. Zbalk
Make sure and get the 6' Fuji Whip hose too..... very nice.
If you love HVLP then buy another-midrange to expensive. If you like conventional buy Anest-Iwata or Sata. Sata is the more expensive and German made, Anest Iwata is Japanese (they invented the technology) and both are laser cut and considered to be LVLP (low volume low pressure). These guns, depending on model are $300-500. Binks is a no show in todays spray world. aloha, mike
