Magazines seem to work pretty well, as do coasters and books. Spread them out on the table and you'll never notice the sapwood.

You forgot paint.
I have use black dye mixed with denatured alchol and had great results.

I have several aniline dye colors and was looking for some help as to which one has worked best for other people.
I also remember reading aomething about using wild colors like yellow, orange, etc under the finish or stain to blend the sap wood better. Your thoughts...

Walnut stain made from walnut husks soaked in household ammonia.
I've seen some good finish guys tint there finish and hide it fairly well.
