Well, dropped a line to a Knots member this morning (through the forum) and it bounced back. Noticed that his listed addy was something like [email protected] So, obviously, he doesn’t want messages. That’s OK, no prob. But, just FYI, if any member does not want other members to send them mail (again, through the board, not direct) there is a place to indicate this. Orange bubble above, says “MY FORUMS” then go to “My Preferences.” Somewhere at the bottom of that page, there’s a place to check if you do want to allow other members to contact you via Knots.
Anyhoo, just wondering how parnoid y’all are. I’ve had my addy listed with Knots for several years now and never had a problem with either harassment or with spam. If I were to choose not to answer a message, the sender would never even know my addy.

I sleep with a broadsword by my bed, does that count?
Forest,
Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean that we are nt out to get you.
:)
Or he (she) has changed e-mail address and has not updated it on this site.
"Or he (she) has changed e-mail address and has not updated it on this site." Uhhhh, I don't think that was a real addy.
"...doesn't mean that we are nt out to get you." Yikes!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)

There's no doubt that I'm paranoid, but I'm never certain if I'm paranoid enough - lol.
Much of my customer communication is via email and I tell customers that they need to put something in the subject line that will flag their email as legit. No subject, pharmacutical offers, investment opportunities, etc, are immediately tagged as spam and deleted without opening.
It's amazing, isn't it?! I have a program that will help filter spam, but it has to be used with Outlook or Outlook Express. For whatever reason, I stopped using OE and went to the Earthlink email program a year or so ago. Am thinking about changing back at the beginning of '06.
For now, though, I just go to the web mail and delete the spam before I download. That helps. Would (maybe "will") go crazy when I'm doing more commercial business via the internet. Am trying to get my web site up by the end of October. Should be interesting!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
"paranoid" Could be a couple of weard looking guys with strange lookin glasses taped together. Or a guy that thinks he has a big pair a oh you know.
Good, better, best never let it rest until your good is better & your better best.

I went to Yahoo after I got a DSL connecton a couple of years ago. It seems to do a good job of segregating my email. There's only been one "mistake" that I know of - one customer's email somehow got into the "Bulk" folder.
You know, you can learn a lot by following around a paranoid...

you can learn a lot by following around a paranoid... Yes but I get LOST!
Sounds like I better add another layer of foil to my hat.
Paranoid?
I thought that was a healty state of mind!
LOL:))))))

It's hard not to be paranoid when the whole world is out after you.
forestgirl,
If you can rid yourself of your paranoia, now's a good time. These must be really tough times for paranoid individuals!
The Internet is crawling with invisible methods for spying on you and is virtually infested with trained creatures that tunnel in the dark and grab your personal data, then bring it back to the hunter looking for it.
It's good to have nothing to hide these days!
It's good to realise what is really valuable!
It's fun to know we're all in it together!

I agree with you forestgirl,
I thought the purpose of these forums were to associate with each other.
I refuse to live in a bubble.

Good for you, Garry!! Actually, I think many people are simply unaware of some of the features here at Knots and, in some instances, forget to update email addy when it changes.
For anyone who's new and reading this thread, one of the things that really helps is if you indicate in your profile where you live! This is accessed by clicking on the orange "My Forums" bubble above, then selecting "My Profile." We don't need to know your sign or your favorite song if you don't want us to. ;-) but where you live helps when answering a number of questions.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
I reckon people should be required to put at least where they live (no need to get specfic), their occupation, their age and any other hobbies or interests. Then nobody will be told how to suck eggs, or which store to get glue from, if you get what I mean, and since we are supposed to be a 'community', it is better to know more or less who we are, so that the forum has character.Philip Marcou
"I reckon people should be required to put at least where they live (no need to get specfic), their occupation, their age and any other hobbies or interests. " I would disagree there -- I don't think we should be required to provide any info to the other forum members, but I don't have any problem with people knowing that I'm from The Great Northwest!!!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Semantics: how about "It would be very useful if...."Philip Marcou
That's a bit more than semantics, but yes I like it better!:-)forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)

Paranoid; You'll know all about paranoid as soon as I refine Google Earth to locate your workshop by telemetry via your licence plate number, mobile phone & mail box & send in a SAS team to liberate those new Bessey clamps & put them to work where it doesn't snow....:-)
Or, I could use the phone book.....:-)
Donsomewhereelseunparanoid
Hey Don, you can actually get that google earth thing to work?I can't get any sense out of it!Philip Marcou
Yeah Philip, my son's GF down loaded it when she stayed last week but couldn't get it to work either. I just clicked on 'No' when prompted to go to 'DirectX' & up it all came. (& I'm no 'puter genius).
It appears to have a couple of different levels of clarity eg there is astrip along the western side of the Hauraki Gulf of very good imaging but less so inland over suburban Auckland.
<I don't have any problem with people knowing that I'm from The Great Northwest!!!>Geez, do ya think they know where I live? Aloha, mike
"Aloha, mike" Bulgaria??forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
<"Aloha, mike" Bulgaria??>Dern, yer on to me.........dont tell any ok?
The email address I use to subscribe to forums such as this is [email protected] .
I don't care; this one gets so much spam anyway. I use a web-based program with it and delete most of it without downloading, anyway.
"this one gets so much spam anyway. " Will get a lot more when posted on the page like that! :-) forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
I imagine it will for a little while, then it seems to die off.
The worst is eBay. Every time I buy something with it, I get a big spam spike.
< Every time I buy something with it, I get a big spam spike.>What do you make with the spam spikes? Does it take a lot of them to make something? What kind of finish do you use on them? Maybe you could post a few picks of your spike for us..... ;-)aloha, mike
I'm not paranoid and I wish everyone would stop saying that about me .....behind my back.............the router bits all group together and chatter about me
