Hello to all ,
I have owned this 10″ table saw for 20 years or so , it was way old before I got it . It sure looks like a Unisaw but has wording on the tilt gauge that says Delta Mfg.Co. The metal tag has Ser. No. 32 280 . It has a 3hp Baldor single phase motor . No other markings or numbers are on it .
If anyone can help in putting an approximate date on it , that would solve a long wondered question . Thanks for any help .
Merry Christmas and Best of Wishes To All

It may well be a unisaw. That serial number would put the date of manufacture in the mid 1940s. Go over to the Old Woodworking Machines site (http://www.owwm.com). You can check out the photo index there and compare.

Pete ,
I went to the link you provided , thank you . I looked at the list of serial numbers but did not find that one. But I learned it is the older style serial # tag , so according to the site it most likely could be from the late thirtys to possibly early fortys . I knew it was old , when others come to my shop they always comment that looks like an old one , yup I guess it is .
thanks again dusty
Unisaw was Delta's brand name for some of their cabinet saws so your saw could be a Unisaw.
As mentioned, the OWWM site is the place to go for information. They will have, in addition to the pictures, reprints of vintage Delta catalogs and probably a copy of the saws owner's manual.

If you call Delta they can also use casting numbers to date and identify equipment.
dusty,
Try calling Delta @ 1-800-223-7278. I have done this with three old machines and they were able to tell me the month and year of mufacture. They can also send you copies of the owners/parts manual.

Thanks Mack ,
I'll give that number a call , that would be a stroke of luck to simply make a call and get the answer . When I get the answer I will share it with all .
thanks again for the number

dusty,
Delta has been very helpful to me with info on the old machines. The last one was an almost cosmic experience. Bought an old cabinet (Unisaw) saw for $225 and was going to just clean it up a bit and resell it. Called Delta and found out it was made the same year and month I was born, July 1950. I figured that was some kind of omen so I kept it and tricked it out.

Hi oak ,
Heres a photo of my old saw , Delta told me the born date was 11/44.
Does the table tilt, or does the arbor? How does the motor mount, i.e. foot-mounted, or hung off of welded-on "ears"? How many drive belts does it have? Is it on a full cabinet with a cleanout door in the front? Inquiring minds want to know.
Be seeing you...
Hi Tom ,
The arbor tilts and the motor mounts off welded on ears . It has a triple belt pulley , and it does have a full cabinet base with a cleanout door, the door was missing so a pal gave me one that fits fine , but it is not original .
thanks for inquiring

Dusty:
The Delta saw,now known as the Unisaw, goes back at least to 1940.In that year I worked for the Stinson Aircraft Co,and they had a whole department devoted to this machine. It`s principle use was to cut aluminum extrusions to length for further manufacture.I bought one like it in the 1950s and am still using it. I have replaced the spindle and bearings once, the next replacement will be the belts, with the link type.
Thank you,Mr.Croney, where ever you may be.

Pat ,
Thanks for sharing your personal bit of Americana and tools . Sounds like you would be very comfortable pushing stock through this old saw, come on down . If only the old iron tools could tell their story of trials and tribulations they have endured .
Best of Wishes to you Pat

Dusty,
The saw was manufactured in 1944. It would have originally had a 1 horse repulsion/induction motor so the Baldor was a later replacement.
Any chance you have the old motor and motor switch? These are a couple of "sought after" parts 'n pieces.
A call to Delta should get you the exact month the saw was manufactured.

Keith ,
Thank you very much for your help on this. It did not come with the original motor or motor switch unfortunately . The 3 hp Baldor sure does the job , no complaints there .I will continue to try and get through to Delta , they have been busy .
Thanks Again Happy Holidays dusty
