I had a response to a recent post where I was asked for photos. I can’t find info anywhere on this site that offers help on how to do this. Any suggestions?
Jerry
P.S. My wife says I am a good “looker” but a lousy “finder”. That may be the case now.

When you "Upload file" you need to wait till it comes back with a message that indicates that the file is attached before moving on to the next step. If you don't wait for the message, the file won't get attached.

Use whatever tool needed to Git 'r Done!
I never tried that.....that would seem to be a flaw in the process.

Not necessarily a fault in the process but more likely the method of implementation, i.e. how it was programmed. For example, in Yahoo email, I can attach several files in one step. In our case, we must attach them one at a time via Browse/Upload, but we can repeat this two step process several times.
Most WEB sites have an attachment file size limitation as wel, and for good reasonsl. FWW obviously wouldn't want everyone uploading multiple HUGE files willy nilly. And besides, why flood the bandwidth in the first place?

there are some things that a Mac cannot do here, but the info was meant for someone running Windows .....the way I read your post .I thought you meant you could quit a download in progress and I can't do that either.

Hi,
I'm not that familiar with the Mac, but in theory, everything should work the same as with Windows. What I'm not sure of is what happens when you select "Attach Files". You should get a dialog box that allows you to "Browse", "Upload" and "Done".
When I select Browse in Windows, I get a Windows based "Choose File" dialog box. What happens on a Mac when you perform the Browse function. I'm guessing that you get the MAC "Chooser", and therefore you proceed normally? Again, I must emphasize my lack of knowledge on the MAC.
As for aborting downloads, I can usually select the "Stop" button
We are dealing with HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language, which is designed to allow computers running different Operating Systems to communicate seemlessly together.
I am running Windows 98SE, for many reasons. Mostly, I am never annoyed with the garbage proliferating the Internet (pop-ups, Addware, viruses, etc.; and secondly I don't like my OS to take over my PC as does Windows XP. But then again, I've been involved with computers for nearly 40 years so I can do without the GUI.

I have no problems downloading here...the Browse Upload and Done buttons are there.....everything sounds the same as for you, there seems to be however some clicks and commands that ONLY the Windows folks can play with....I can NEVER put an open image in the message ......only as an attachment..
I can fool around with html, which for me is usually the option key.
but text sizing with the mouse and other gimmicks are verboten.....its not a big deal, I am pleased when I figure out html or some other weird command !what I'm trying to say , is the steps to get an image file ready to upload here is somewhat convoluted compared to Irfanview, or Picassa.

"try to keep them around 150Kb " I'll disagree a bit here, MD. Dial-up was my life up until last fall, and the pain lingers. There's really no reason any pic (for forum use) needs to be more than about 75kb. And they can usually be kept under 50kb with conscientious cropping, resizing and compression. 75kb was about the level that I'd think twice before clicking on an attachment, and anything over 100kb was a major decision, LOL.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
yeah .75Kb is fine.....but,
I only resize my stuff to the same hor. and vert.dimensions and have no idea how much memory I need,
...( I don't get to use any of the free wonderful Windows based products)
so when I upload them here the memory used has varied ....due to the content I guess? and150 seemed about avg. but they could be smaller I think we're saying the same thing?.....just different....

"I think we're saying the same thing?.....just different..." Yeah, that what makes life interesting some times <g>. What got me so tenacious about file sizes was selling on eBay back in the mid- to late-90's. Wasn't anything I thought was more frustrating for a buyer than waiting forever-and-a-day for a picture to download. Just got me in the habit I guess. At that time, using Paint Shop Pro, it was a hassle going to Windows Explorer to check the file size. Now I have Paint Shop Photo Album, which puts the file size right there in the info window. Much easier.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
........okay.

one more idea....I don't know where it is on this page anymore, but there is the Sandbox over at Breaktime.....its in a column on the right side of Breaktimes mainpage. or just follow this link

You can practice whatever you want in there all day long, and then just head back here to show off

'Wer ist jetzt der Idiot?'
OK,one more thing, .(sheesh.wake up Tom)....some folks use Irfanview to resize their pictures to a smaller viewable size...for those poor souls that still have a Dial-Uphttp://www.irfanview.com/.and here is a good thread about it

If you don't get the Attach Files button when you're typing your reply, you're probably in "Basic View" and need to switch to "Advanced View" (dontcha just love it?!). That is done on the message page, at the bottom of the right-hand frame.

Thank you....I forgot about that too.

IMHO the Basic View causes more consternation than it prevents, ROFL.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Oh the genius of it all........;).

OK! I give up. What is ROFL?Jerry
its the abbreviation of ROTFLMAO.......sheesh.

Thanks for the wikipedia link. I now know there a lot of things you COULD have said that I would not have understood - or appreciated. Amazing list!JerryStill working on attaching pics. I have an iMAC and dial-up so things are a little more difficult.
Can't help you with the Mac stuff, but if you're on dial-up, just make your file sizes small. Crop, resize and compress. If you can adjust your camera to use lower dpi without loosing too much quality that's a big help too.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Did you request access to the Cafe? I couldn't attach pics before i got Cafe access. No, i don't know why, either.
Hi -
Coupla things not yet mentioned:
1) To upload a file, see "Attach Files" button below the message entry form - it's to the right of the "Post" button down there.
2) I went nuts trying to figure it out until I finally realized that the Taunton server REQUIRES COOKIES for uploads. Be sure they're not blocked in your browser when ya try it.
3) Your digital camera will store *huge* images in .bmp format (and maybe .jpg.) If it's a 5Mpixel camera, they'd be photo quality at poster size! .. and will have a file size of about 1500kb. (Har - my first hard drive had 150kb total storage back in the '70s!) They're stored at color density of 16 million colors - good enough to publish professionally - yet the human eye can rarely discern distortion in images reduced to as low as 256 colors.
File size (the download bugaboo) can be enormously reduced if color content is reduced and printable physical size is reduced.
Virtually any free image management program (downloaded from the 'net) will allow you to reduce color content (to 256 or a bit more if that's too little) and to reduce image "physical" size (that is, the maximum size at which it could be physically printed.) There would be separate menu buttons for color management and resizing. When that's done, ....
Save (File_Save_As) a second copy (e.g., "photo1" with a new name, like "photo1A") at 4x6 physical size or even half that, and with reduced color content, for 'net posting. (That keeps the original "photo1" in case you need it, and makes an efficient second for posting purposes.) You'll get below 100kb pretty quickly, and earn the gratitude of all the poor souls who still have to suffer with dialup service. (Large files take forever to download via modems. The smaller the better.)
When you "press" the Forum's "Attach Files" button, a search box will pop up in your browser which will allow you to travel down into your computer's file system and highlight the photo(s) to attach. In all likelihood, your browser will not respond to multiple file selection - just load one and keep going back to the Attach button until you get them all transferred.
Hope that helps a bit ...
