Hello,
Is there an easy way around the Grainger polcy of not selling to the public? I am working on a sanding table with an old furnace blower, and it turns out I need a capacitor to start it… I can find it in the Grainger book but of course they won’t sell it to me. Or any other places that do sell to the public??
Thanks, Edward

Go to http://www.mcmaster.com/ , search on "motor capacitor" and at the bottom of the results page you'll get both start and run capacitors. You'll need to know voltage and microfarads. They take credit cards on-line, and delivery is very quick. They'll sell to anyone. Good luck.
p.s. Edit: Any motor repair shop should have what you need on the shelf.
Be seeing you...

Throw that Grainger catalog away.
Why they have that stupid policy is beyond me.
You can go through any bussines you know around, But why bother?
McMaster-Carr is tops. Great folks.
When did Grainger go off the deep end?

That baffles me. I go into the local Grainger with a credit card, and buy whatever.
Never heard of that policy.
Grainger has always had that policy. Some places just probably don't enforce it all the time. I imagine it's so they don't have to deal with the non-professional. I still use them for certain things but their prices certainly aren't whole sale by any means. The all time best is McMaster. They don't advertise and the service is spectacular. Toughest catalog in the world to get unless you buy a lot

I did this years ago, and they may be fussier now, but I just told them I was John W. Construction Co. and they've been happy to sell to me ever since. They never asked for any proof that I was a legitimate business. Their prices aren't especially good but the selection, service, and speed of delivery are excellent.
