I was reading about a fellow here was having a reaction walnut, how about hickory?
I’m using hickory in my kitchen remodel to do the trim work. My first time working with it. Whenever I spend time in the shop sawing hickory I end up with a sore throat. The first time, I came down with strep throat. Nobody else in the family came down with it. Anyone with the same experiences? Can hickory be that toxic?

You need to wear a good dust mask. Don't mess with wood dust if it bothers you.
If it still bothers you, it is probably getting in your eyes, which are connected to your sinuses. Then you need to switch species.

It probably is to you. My personal weakness is MDF dust. It absolutely kills me to the point I won't use it any more. Get a good dust respirator, but if it continues to bother you, change species. Try one of the powered air filters like the Trend Airshield if your budget will allow, but don't mess around. Good luck.
The human body is quite a unique gizmo. We all react differently to different wood dusts. I have a wicked problem with padauk and walnut dust, but hickory doesn't bother me at all. You need to get a good respirator type dust mask and a good set of safety goggles.
When I'm working with one of my "nasty" woods, I dress up in the shop looking like I'm working at the CDC (center for disease control). My first go-round with walnut dust put me in the hospital.
Be safe. Oh, and learn to plane instead of sand. No Dust!!
