For anyone looking into hollowing systems, particularly “captured systems” here’s a compendium of approaches and variations. I have no affiliation with any of these tool makers or their retailers.

For the mechanically gifted, here's a link to a shop made hollowing system. Must have welding capability, though, so I haven't built it.

You'll need a bit more than just a torch and the ability to weld - like some way to cut 1/4 inch steel plate and inch and a quarter solid square steel stock. a way to drill a 5/8 or 7/8 inch hole through a couple of inches of steel, a grinder, preferably a die grinder and maybe a disk grinder, at tap and know how to use it, etc....The "snake" shown in the pdf file you linked to has MOST of the elements of the MiniMonster / MightyMonster articulated arm system. Compare it with the MiniMonster and notice the differences - some subtle, some glaring.Amazing how inventive woodturners are.charlie b
Ain't it the truth. I am constantly flabergasted at the skill level of these folks. I have ground down a few old allen wrenches for hollowing tools, but that's the extent of my tool making so far.
