help with TS lash in height & tilt
I have an old powermatic 65 that I’m putting together and noticed that there is lash in the worm gears for both the height and the tilt.
Couldn’t this introduce wandering/vibration under load?
The only way I can see to fix it is to put oversized worm gears on it.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Does Powermatic sell an oversized gear for this when they wear out like mine have?
Drilling out where the shaft goes and putting a bushing with a eccentric hole in it would work too but would be a lot more work. That way I could move the gear closer. Just thinking out loud.

You may be overthinking the situation. On my Unisaw, there is play in both gears, and it has been there since the saw was new. The weight of the motor -- which is pretty darn large --- keeps the worm gears firmly to one side of the lash. You might go ahead to assemble the saw and use it, and see if your lash is really a problem.
That thought did cross my mind. Since this is in the design it was addressed a long time ago.
I'm just trying to make sure the saw is in top form before I press it into service.
Thanks for the reassurance.
