My youngest daughter is due with their first child and has told me she wants me to build a cradle and be finished by the end of March. I have a bunch of cherry and have started with that. Have determined that I need to get a couple pieces of 8/4 to make the base at each end. The cherry is from Arkansas (some family roots there), we live in Pennsylvania, our daughter was born in Las Vegas (lived there for 10 years) and she and her husband now live in New Jersey.
So, since I need some additional wood, I thought I would see if I could get a couple pieces of cherry from Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and then some other piece of wood from Nevada to work into the cradle.
Any ideas who I could contact in New Jersey and Nevada about wood? Preferably rough cut, but dry and ready to mill. Nevada would probably need to be someone from the northern part of the state.
Thanks,

Try Hearne Hardwoods in Oxford. They have loads of Cherry as well as others, including exotics. 1-888-814-0007
Another option is Groff and Groff in Quarryville. 1-800-342-0001
Good Luck.

Thanks. I live near Hershey. Am familiar with Groff. They are a tad bit expensive. I have bought directly from several sawmills north of here. I need some leads for Nevada and New Jersey. Know anyone in Jersey?
Thanks,
Alan
I do not.
I live in Maryland and within 25 minutes of both of these places. Their proces aren't the cheapest, but they will sell any quantity- big or small. As long as they are in business so close to my home, I will never buy loads of wood in bulk. It's too easy to run up there when I need something. I believe they ship UPS.
Good luck!

Alan in Doylestown P A., me and some wood working friends bought cherry and red oak
Can't remember the name, but the price was right. Perhaps you can google up Doylestown and check for lumber merchants As I recall, it was a big operation and you were free to pick and choose
. Stein.
Thanks for the lead in Doylestown. Will check it out.

I attended the woodworking show in Ft. Washington a couple of months ago, picked up some cocobolo and bubinga from a vendor called "U S Mahoghany" out of North Jersey. Sorry but I can't find the reciept anywhere. New Jersey Information should be able to pull the number for you. (I think they said they were in Aberdeen N.J.) Great idea about using geographically significant timbers. Just finished a Black Walnut and White Oak craddle for our first grandchild. A most gratifying project. Good luck in your wood aquisition and Blessings for the little one. Regards, Gene
Gene,
Thanks for the New Jersey lead. That's enough to get me started.
And, thanks for the blessings,
