Hi, My name is Brian and I’m a Routerholic. I think I’ve lost control. I’m seriously considering buying my fifth router. a Three and a half Hp, 15 amp beauty. She calls to me when I’m awake and in my dreams. I Think I’ve lost it completely!
What is it about routers? Their just soooo….cool. In my defense I actually will have only four operational routers when I buy the monster. SEE!!! I said earlier I was “considering” buying the router! Who am I kidding? It’s a done deal! The disease! The disease!
Oh yes…the other dark secret. I am dually addicted. Planes.
But don’t get me started.
Brian

Gawd, Brian! You have a serious problem. I do this nonsense for a living-- or a near approximation to it, and been doing so for nearly thirty years. I own just four routers, a couple of them almost ten years old-- bought new when I moved to the US, and one or two have been to the repair shop a time or two. I also probably own the smallest tool kit in the world, and the cruddiest collection of saws, chisels, and planes you've ever seen-- and nothing very special when it comes to marking tools either-- no dial deal micrometers in my kit, ha, ha. I'm not an engineer.
Mechanical tools don't really make a furniture maker-- but the big tool between the ears does. I'd suggest investing in that one as much as possible. <g> Slainte.

Hi Richard, " an approximation of it"...I've seen some of your work Richard, your an artisan. Some truly amazing work. Of course your right about educating myself and I do as much as I can. But...just one more...then I'll quit. I swear. Brian
routers rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i just acquired #6 last week. a bosch 1619. he's the new big brother on the shelf.
Oh Yaaaaaaa. ;)..... (me drooling)
i have the 1619 in my table with the woodpecker plunge lift and its a awsome set up i just hope this router last me a long time, i also picked up the bosch 1618 with the D handle wow what a improvement in control. i have to say bosch makes some nice routers ill be sticking with them from now on.
Sounds to me like you might benefit from Frenchy's support group. Good luck.
Brian
You don't need 5 routers. I have been tinkering for 30 yrs. and only have 4 left. I experienced the same affliction at one time, but I beat it. I voluntarily placed myself in the Sgain Dubh Clinic for several months of router dry-out.
I admit it's not easy, but you can overcome this affliction for routers with a dedicated effort. You have taken the first step by admitting you have the problem. Seek help from a reputable clinic or just go "cold turkey". I'm sure your family and friends will support you.
NO, it won't be easy! Every time you see a router on sale, every time you see a new model with "new and improved"; you will feel the need to purchase. Many of us have already gone through this. You can.... You just have to take it "one day at a time".
Good Luck...ha..ha..

Feelin' shakey Sarge..just one more? PLEEEEEEEEEEASE?
I, on the other hand, HATE routers. They are so freaking loud. Every time I use my (one, older) router I have to remind myself that I'm doing woodworking because I enjoy it.
Psssst , wanna try some mainline stuff? get yourself a shaper! now that is for the serious tool junkie and will do stuff that makes that router seem like a wimp..
Ya don't need much to get started. but try Grizzleys 3hp and enjoy the lack of screaming noise.. while you make cuts in one pass that no router will ever do..
As they say, go big or stay at home!
Here I stand on the pedestal for public humiliation, AGAIN :o)
I have (1), I say ONE, 20 year old, 1HP, 1/4" shank, Craftsman router.
In my own defense I will say:
I love router work: handling, doing and the products!
I am slowly shopping for my second router!
I have and use my router table with Incra fence model X something or other!
I have $500 (at least) in carbide router bits!
I do more than edges, I rabbit, dado, spline and dovetail.
I have and use my shaper!
Raising right hand: I hereby swear to scratch this itch!
Enjoy, Roy

What model is the Craftsman. I have my original Craftsman 1 1/2 HP I bought in 73 or 74, I think. It's own the "wall of shame" with my original bloc sander and ShopMate (50's model) circular saw (my first table saw when mounted under a piece of plywood). It still works, even though I don't use it. ha..ha..
