Guide Bushings for Bosch 1617EVS Router
I recently bought a Bosch 1617EVS router combo kit (fixed and plunge base). It has a “tool-free template guide adapter” which requires the separate purchase of Bosch guide bushings. My question is: do the Bosch bushings measure up or should I buy a universal router base plate that has a 1 1/4 inch hole that fits Porter Cable type screw-on bushings?<!—-><!—-> <!—->
Thanks for any help, Tenderfoot Bob <!—-> <!—->

There's an attachment you can purchase that will allow any guide bushing. I bought it online at the Bosch Outlet store. It has a trigger sliding mechanism that allows the Porter Cable bushings to insert, with an adaptor plate.
One set of guide bushings is enough.

Actually, I don't think they are all equal. I got a similar Bosch set, and the first time I used the guide bushing it snapped off the mounting plate. Weld/solder joint broke. It was rather dramatic.

Actually I think Jeff is talking about an adapter plate that fits in the Bosch "trigger holder" that comes with the base/kit. It is just a flat plate with a hole of the proper size to use the more standard Porter Cable size bushing. I have one and it works quite well. I think I got it from the source Jeff mentioned. I also have/had a couple of Bosch bushings that snap in to the "trigger holder" and they are not well made. I had one break just as you described.Hope that clairifys things for the OP.

I have a new Bosch and purchased the bushing set. First off, I have NOT used them yet. Router.. I love it.. Bushings not yet used.
There is one bushing in the set that lets you use the common brass bushings (like the PC ones).
The Bosch bushing set I will define as stamped steel with pressed in tubes that surround the bit. They seem well made.
Just my opinion though.
I didn't like them and sold them. Made my own router plate and now use PC style template guides...much better. While Bosch make excellent routers the template guide do slip and don't stay centered....the quick change system is a good idea that does not work and needs refining....too bad
Better than my PC (That I like) and use every day...
Bob -
I have had breakage problems with the Bosch inserts, but responses to a posting here for explanation indicated that it was probably my own dam' fault - insufficient clearance between bit and insert for chip ejection.
That said, I think you'll be better off with the PC style adapter - it clips in just like the inserts, and allows PC inserts to be nutted to it.
On the other hand if movement within the Bosch system is indeed a problem - and I can't speak to that - you might well be better off making your own sub base that allows mounting PC inserts directly, as suggested by another respondant.
Good luck!
I would say if CHIPS clogged the insert you are taking way to big bites!
OK, dust. I was routing MDF.
I was using a 1/4 upspiral in a 17/64 ID guide. This configuration resulted in guide failure not once, but twice.
Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice........
