They’re offering this tool “this week only” for $595. Sounds awful cheap for an 8″ jointer.
This is the model without the handwheels. Anyone have experience with this jointer?

I got the email this morning too and that seems like a heck of a price especially since it normal retails at $765. So I went on Grizzly’s website for more info and to compare this with the G0500 that lists for $875 (longer bed, 4 knives and bigger motor). Then, confusion set in when I saw the NEW 8”, G0586 that sells for $625 and has a bigger motor and 4 knives.
What is the difference?
They are trying to clean out old inventory, in advance of the arrival of new models. (IMO) Heck of a deal. Need to figure out if another 10" of table and and extra knife is worth the extra $30 or so on the introductory price of the new sander in May or June. I'm with you on the inventory clearance and drop in price but what leaves me scratching my head is the new jointer that is comparable in features to the G0500 but $250 less. And why would anyone buy the discounted jointer with 1 less knife, 10" less on the table and a half H.P. less for a mere $30 difference in price.
What am I missing?
I was curious about that too. Their higher end models have four knives or spiral cut heads. Has anyone used these pricier models- they've gotten some good reviews. Just wondering if they are worth the extra $$$.

I like the levers, but I don't know many that do. Still can't understand why. Reason everyone gives is accuracy. Don't understand that either. I think you get the accuracy, but all you are doing is taking enough off to make it flat anyway, not to cut to dimension.
Not cutting to dimension unless you're rabbeting. I can see why people develop a preference for handwheels or levers, but IMO, it's just a matter of getting used to working with either one and becoming proficient with it. I have a Grizzly 6"x47" jointer with the levers and have also used the kind with handwheels. I really don't care which it has, as long as it leaves a good surface, the bed is level and coplanar and the fence stays square through the range of tilt.

Come on all you eager 'Griz heads' who have the catalog memorized, is there anyone that has any info on the new jointer v. the discounted jointer?
Alright, I got through to technical assistance at Grizzly to ask the difference in the NEW 8" G0586 and the established G0500 that lists for $250 more and the answer is simply country of origin. the 586 is made in China and the 500 is made in Taiwan.
Quality control and warranty are, according to Grizzly, the same.
That being the case, is there really any reason to not go for the G0586? I'm assuming shipping cost's the same, right? As long as Grizzly's standing behind it, I don't know that the difference between Taiwan and mainland China is at all significant.Mitch
