I just received my Grex P635 pinner and it states in the user manual to not use “bottled gases” because of the danger of explosion, including CO2 (carbon dioxide gas). Does anyone know the reason for this warning? I’ve heard of other woodworkers using this gas for nailers without any problems. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks!

CO2 is bottled at VERY high pressure -- typically over 1,000 lbs/sq in. A typical shop compressor tops out at about 150 lbs/sq in. Grex guns are not made to sustain the pressured present in botled gasses. If the regulator develops a problem, the gun may not be able to handle the excess pressure of bottled gas. If there's a problem with the shop compressor's regulator, it's not as big a problem since the gun can sustain the compressors full pressure.

Everything fits, until you put glue on it.
I have a new Jac Pac with a 9 oz. bottle and a regulator that tops out at 100Lb/sq in. Would this work OK?
The problem would occur if the regulator fails. Simplistically there is a spring which applies pressure to a valve. The difference in pressure between the spring and the bottle pressure is the supply pressure you get.If the spring breaks then you can get the full bottle pressure. If it were me I would check whether the reducing valve has a rupture disc on the low pressure side which would rupture at a safe pressure for the gun. If yes then I'd use it but I must emphasise that all my experience with gas pressure reducers has been with high-end ones such as are used for drinks dispensing in bars and controlling the has pressure in big expensive tanks.
It should work, provided the regulator isn't (or doesn't become) defective.Mike HennessyPittsburgh, PAEverything fits, until you put glue on it.
Any bottle gas could potentialy explode (notice I said potentially). My guess is the reason is LAWYERS! They are afraid of being sued! It's the same reason, lawn mowers have a sign that says "don't put hands here" where the blades are at.

The problem here is not the bottle itself explading but the regulator failing - a not unheard of phenomenon. However a good regulator has inbuilt protection.
I use my Cadex 23ga as well as my Senco and Bostitch trim guns with a JacPac all the time on punch out lists. No problem what so ever. BTW my JacPac does have a High Pressure blow out disc.
