Should an importance be placed on the grain orientation for vise jaws? After thinking about it, if you use a solid piece of stock and use the face of the stock as the vise jaw, the stock is bending about it’s weak axis (perpendicular to the grain) when the vise is engaged. Conversely, if you glue up several pieces of stock with the grain parallel to the applied pressure, that would be stiffer. I’m leaning towards the second option, which would be more work for both the vise jaw and the apron for the inside jaw face. Any thoughts?
Thanks, Brett

I used a piece of Southern Yellow Pine resawn in half. They are durable and tough - never a problem with them...
