Hi chalky ,
If you are gluing to a Melamine surface , here are some options Contact cement , if you sand or rough up the Melamine you will give some bite to the cement .
There are several glues specifically formulated for Melamine . the one I have used is called Roo Glue , and it gets used much like regular wood glue .
dusty
i use latex contact cement for exactly that, done it many times, scuff the melamine, apply CC with a roller and so on, trim with a router and edge band as usual
built many cabinets this way, including a 7 foot tall entertainment unit, faced with 1/4 inch maple plywood
Thanks, Steve, do I apply the CC to both the melamine and plywood?
yes, apply one or two THIN coats to both surfaces, then laminate as usual
i would cut the melamine to its exact size, the veneer/ply an eigth over sized, laminate together then trim off the excess ply with a small router with a 1/4 inch bit
use spacers between the teo materials, venetain blindslats work great, in order to position the venner layer, then pul them out carefully so as not to disturb the positioning
