Any wood can be finished in a glossy surface.
After curing at least a month, you may consider rubbing it out with a rubbing compound like Meguiers fine cut compound. Follow that with a product called Swirl remover and the surface will glow.
It all depends on how well you apply the finish. Apply light coats, let them dry well and sand lightly to level and give the surface tooth for the next coat.
Once your final coat has had the chance to cure, you can take it a little further. The surface can be rubbed out by wet sanding with fine grit papers such as 600 grit or with Abralon pads.
When complete, move on to the rubbing compounds described above.
Check out some of the finishing books available. They will describe in detail how to rub out a surface for a glossy finish.
