   I can't help with finding the dowel centers, but in a pinch you could try the Frid approach: Tap in a brad at each point you want a dowel, nip off the head, and put your workpieces together. Take them apart and pull out the brads. Now drill each piece, centering on the brad marks.

   Just put a couple wraps of tape on your 3/8" center.

   Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
