At the woodworking show last weekend I saw some of the General table saws and was very impressed with the fit and finish of them. I would truly love to purchase a 650-T50, but don’t really want to spend that kind of money. However, I was intrigued by the 50-220. It must be a brand new model as I can’t really find any comments or information about them online. Have any of you looked at them, purchased one, etc.? Comments?
I am wanting to upgrade from a Bosch 4000 that I have “outgrown”.

Based on what I've seen of the new General International a friend has, I'd guess it's a good saw. At risk of sounding like a broken record, though, why not spend that $875 or so on a cabinet saw? Grizzly 1023S ($825) or 1023SL ($895, left tilt). That'd last you a long, long time!

Thanks for the reply forestgirl. After reading more posts I see that you are not the only one that would recommend that course of action. While I would really like the General 650-T50 :-) I am considering either a General 50-260 or the Grizzly 1023SL.

Wow, the General 50-260 looks like a great saw. If you need the additional rip capacity and have room for those rails, seems like that'd be a good way to go. Looks like the equivalent Grizzly package would be about $1100.
Have to say, my friend's General is a sweet machine!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Lizurd,
Purchased my General 50-260 about three weeks ago. Drove all the way to San Antonio, Texas to get it. Ten hour round trip for me. Anyway, got it home, uncrated it and found that the motor mount was broken. Called General the next day and had the new part in two days. They even offered to pay a local tech to put it in if I would find one for them. I decided to put it in myself. Took about 2 1/2 hours. Wrote General a note to let them know I thought I should be compensated but haven't heard from them yet. Really don't expect to.
Now that I've vented, some info about the saw. The finish and fit are quite good. I'm running the 220 single phase motor, plenty of power. Tuning the saw was relatively easy. They could make the table mounting bolts a little easier to get to though. Didn't receive any instructions with the saw so had no idea how the power switch mounted so I just put it in the best location for me. I sent General a note asking for a set but haven't received any yet. Thats been two weeks ago. The fence is a Canadian Biesmyer and works great. The only beef with the fence is mounting it to the saw. You will have to drill all of your own mounting holes. None of the holes on the saw match up. Also, the saw does'nt come with a blade so trying the saw out will require a trip to the blade store. All-in-all I think it's going to be a great saw just wish General would have made it easier to put it all together.
