Dan,
Can you post some photos of the completed rifle? Looks like a beauty!!
-Jerry
If you are curious about finished stuff I have posted a simple halfstock in maple. The "furniture" is brass for the most part in the photo but the lock and the key plates are browned with nitric acid. The walnut rifle will be finished out in brown iron. No shiny stuff on this one as per the owner. Yea right. I couldn't resist a bright nose cap. Oh well.
Wire Inlay Lesson: the best example of how to install wire inlay in wood is contained in a lesson by David Price. He is a fantastic builder living up in NH for any locals that might want to visit with him or ask questions. I'm told David is generous- you can tell from his impressive photo lessons. Good stuff for someone wanting to get started. I must give credit to dkellernc for the find(another knotter) of this motherlode.
I hope to expand on the pewter stuff as I move along. I take photos of work in progress to show some how most of this stuff is step by step work. In the end it adds up to something unique. Lots of design modifications along the way -- if you know what I mean.
