Hello, I want to make an urn and finish it with two pack black glossy finish.
But I also want to inlay a ceramic tile on the front of the box. The tile will be 2″diameter, 1/8″ thick.
What is the best way to go about it?
I would prefer to cut the 2″ recess for the tile before the box is glued up. Previous efforts with the 2″ hole filled with masking tape have resulted in tearout of some of the adjacent finish when removing the tape, as shown in the attached photo

I have been in a similar situation before. What I found worked for me was clamping a sacrificial board to the front of where you want the hole to be. Then drill your hole though the sacrificial board and into your work piece. I have had great results that way.
