Does anyone know where I can get a blade for my frame saw. This saw is used for ripping? Blade is 32″ long.

I just buy a whole bandsaw blade and cut off a hunk and drill holes in the ends see pic.

Thanks for your response. I thought of this, but was concerned about the tooth configuration for machine cutting versus hand cutting. How do these blades work for you? How many TPI do you use?
Dan
You are correct sir ! I had to touch each tooth with a diamond hone to make the blade a little less aggressive ( grabby ) worked great after that. I think this is a three tooth per inch but too lazy to get up and look. The bandsaw blade I used on this second smaller bow saw I did not have to re file I just drilled it and used it.http://forums.taunton.com/fw-knots/messages?msg=46976.7See pic bellow for pic of the first saw showing the whole length. Hey Roc, Now that's a saw. Mine are a bit smaller. Here's a photo, of one of my reproduced antique bowsaws. This one's in pecan, bird's eye maple and cherry handles.
Hi Joe,That is an extraordinarily nice bow saw ! Is the maine body/cross piece blued steel ? Or is it wood ? Looks like blued steel.Wow it was lucky I was prowling around I would have never seen your reply to me. I am not getting notices from FWW Knots when a response is posted to me. I used to get them all the time.People complain about logging in. I am mixed on that one. Probably to put away any expectations they should remove the check box that supposedly logs us in automatically. Not getting notices from FWW Knots when a response is posted to me makes it look like I am blowing off some one when I don't even realize they are sending up a flare.I will be glad when THE BIG CHANGE comes. Some body said quit whining that they have to log in twenty times a day at work. I was thinking " well that seems reasonable" but I now realize my email and my pin here are a lot mover complex to type than my pin at work.Is there any thing I can do to get my Knots mail or am I being told " here's your hat what's your hurry " ?That last is a question to readers and judges in general.(I will post that in the "still not fixed" thread to)rocGive me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe. Hi Roc, That spreader on this saw is bird's eye rock maple that I ebonized to get that effect.
I've been using firefox and this logs me into a site like this automatically. Been using it for a while and like a lot of the features. Check it out.
I make some other tools and thought you might like to see a few. link below. Best regards,
Joe
>The tools you made<Wow I am impressed ! All quite nice. Did you turn the knob on the awl ?
I always wanted a box wood shave just like your rose wood one. Now that I have seen rose wood ( I assume, looks like RW any way ) I want one of those too !I haven't run across a large enough piece of box wood or I would have made one. I pursued it for a while but not lately.>FireFox<. I got it here on the machine. I put it on to look at some George Bush / White House site ( I don't recall now what that was about ). It wouldn't load the site and I never went back to check it out. Haven't used it since. Never had a reason until now. Maybe I will jump in again and see how it is.Oh now I remember . . . I think it was the lighting of the Christmas tree last year at the White House.Keep up the great work !rocGive me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe. Roc,I stopped getting e-mail notifications a while back. I later found out that it was because Knots had somehow become unchecked as one of my "Favourite Forums" (I think that's what it's referred to as). Now, I use the pull-down menu at the left above the discussion folders and click on "Unread messages 'to me'". However, that is apparently disappearing in the change.Hope you find this message.. and if you are reading this, glad you found this message!Chris @ http://www.flairwoodworks.com and http://www.flairwoodwork.spaces.live.com)

Well you got me looking around attempting to find the favorite forums button and I came across my Member Profile. UnderEdit Board SettingsUnderMessage Board Preferences
E-mail Notification
Would you like to be notified of message-board posts addressed to you?
Yes I notice I still have the box checked next to Yes.It doesn't work. More of that Mozinga Action that Forest Girl was talking about. Or anti action. Life is hard. When Mozinga Action and anti action come in contact is there a gigantic explosion or do both sort of go floooop and that's about all ?I never did find the favorite forums thing but I know I saw it some where.I am sooo weary from it all. I think I will just lie here on the couch, on my side, and look like a beached fish trying to breath until I get my strength back up again.only partly kidding.rocGive me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe. >Favourite Forums thing<Must take a while. No notices yet though lots of e-mail from other businesses. I may have to switch over to FireFox like some one recommended. Chris what browser are you running ?rocGive me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe. Abraham Lincoln ( 54° shaves )
Safari. I don't get (nor do I need to) get e-mail notifications. I just use the soon-to-be-gone pull-down menu.Chris @ http://www.flairwoodworks.com and http://www.flairwoodwork.spaces.live.com)

It is nice to look at my e-mail without logging in to see if I got any posts to me from Tanton. See I would not even have seen this post from you if I hadn't just happened to click on this thread in general. I had already done the pull-down menu thing and you weren't there as far as I could tell and so was going to hang it up for the night.Safari. Good man !Joe,
FireFox I procrasted about today. Maybe tomorrow. Is this going to be two sets of book marks etc. Safari one set FF another. I am not a computer person so I have never found the need to experiment with anything but Safari. Until now. And if they stop dinking around with the new toy and make the old one work again like it has for years I would be just fine. Is there a place I can look to help me understand why it used to work and now doesn't ?rocGive me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe. Chris,
I notice your in Port Moodey, is the PMI still there, seen many a good show there a few years back.
I grew up in South Burnaby
Taigert
Ed,I'm not sure what PMI is, actually. Port Moody Inlet?Chris @ http://www.flairwoodworks.com and http://www.flairwoodwork.spaces.live.com)

It's the Port Moodey Inn, a hotel and Pub on the Lougheed Hwy. When I live in the Lower Mainland I work in the field with new construction. Well you know what construction workers can be like. The PMI was one of our favorite places to stop on the way home from work for a pint or two. Everyone liked the entertainment they were well known for. It used to be the best in the lower mainland, short of going downtown. The other haunt to go was the Caribou on North Rd, across from the mall. we did a lot of work out around PM.
Taigert
Huh! I have no idea. Lougheed Highway comes in to Coquitlam, then takes a left towards Burnaby - it doesn't come into Port Moody. However, if you go straight where Lougheed goes left, you end up on Barnet Highway, which turns into St Johns Street which goes through downtown Port Moody. I think PMI would be in there somewhere. I'll keep my eyes open.Chris @ http://www.flairwoodworks.com and http://www.flairwoodwork.spaces.live.com)

Chris,
Your right, you can see its been I while that I have away. PMI is on St John towards the east end of town. I forgot all about the Barnett Hwy. I still know how to get where I am going when I come to visit. Old age must be taking its toll on my memory,
I think the Dr. said that memory was second thing to go when you hit 50, I can't remember what the first was?
Taigert
I like what you said in your profile, you know where you want your life to go, but how to get there, & how to know when your there. Some thing along those lines.
I sort of thought that I had that one figured out, then last week life turned around and kicked butt, again.

Chris,
About all you can do right now the way the economy is bouncing around, is just keep plugging away. I can't remember how long it's been since I've had this much down time. I've been on the phone for the last eight hours shaking the bushes. It did some good, I think?
One of the leads I turned up is doing a bunch of ripping material for another company. The other is doing some rehab work for people who are being discharged from the hospital or rehab centers. The work can be easy or really hard each good can be totally different from the last. I thought I was passed this point.
I am sitting here trying to figure what I should charge for a labor rate on shop time to rip down all this two by stock they want cut up. I will not know till Monday how much material they need cut. Their going to figure it out over the weekend. Plus their talking about some "large poplar timbers" as well. What they do is go out and dismantle barns and such. They clean the wood before it coming indoors. There is a risk of hitting something they may have missed. So it is agreed upfront that if we tear up a blade or equipment due to something in the wood, they buy the ticket.
I am going to sit and consider this rate to charge hourly vs. board feet. And then at what price per? It's hard to determine without seeing what you're getting into. It would be nice to keep them happy for the return/referral work that will come from a happy customer. but at the same time still make a profit after covering overhead. I'd hate like He;; to cut my own throat. It's like a balancing act.
I have to admit I do prefer when the supply and demand are turned around. When there are more customers than artisans. I hope it goes back the other way real soon........... that thought and $5.00 will get me a cup of coffee right.
Keep making sawdust,
Taigert
Taigert,Hate to brag, but I'm keeping busy. I actually haven't had to look for work yet - it's all coming in on it's own.Currently, I'm about mid-way in a headboard. The joinery for the frame is cut and fitted and the panel is glued up. I need to cut the groove around the inside of the frame to accept the rabbeted panel. Then I will carve acanthus leaves on the panel in relief.I am also making a small box. I built a jig to cut super-fine finger joints today (while letting the glued headboard panel dry) and milled material for the box itself. I'll let it stabilize/acclimatise for a few days before surfacing it and beginning the actual construction. And I have two coffee tables for two different clients to get to. One is still in the design phase, the other can be started on.Oh, and I have to call another new client about a jewlery box I have been asked to make. I am calling the wife to discuss details.Sorry to hear that work's not falling into your lap. But adversity keeps things interesting, doesn't it?Keep your chin up!Chris @ http://www.flairwoodworks.com and http://www.flairwoodwork.spaces.live.com)

One of the features I like about Firefox is the auto login, search and ect.
Oh the good ol' days when the only thing I knew was IE and windows 2000 pro. All I needed was a good connection and a poker site. When I was a sixth grader I was one of the last ones to sit in a spelling bee but now I can't live without firefox,s spellcheck. Life goes on with or without me.
I make bow saws and use band saw blades that I cut to length and drill holes for the pins in the ends. I've found the blades to be better and less expensive than what is ready made. A frame saw usually takes a wide blade which could be supplied by a good resaw blade. If you want a super blade look for a carbide tipped length of re-saw coil.
