I recently purchased a 30″ Flatmaster drum sander. The unit vibrated considerably when I fired it up after mounting a motor to it. I discovered that the drum wasn’t straight or was out-of-round, when rotated by hand there is about 1/32″ variation in height of the drum. I contacted Stockroom Supply and they sent me a new drum. I’m experiencing much the same problems with the replacement drum. I’m wondering if others have had this experience. I like the concept of the sander, but the vibration in the drum severely detracts from its performance.

No experience, but two bad drums makes me think that it might be the pillow blocks/bearings rather than the drum. What happens if you roll the drum on a flat surface like your tablesaw?

got the flatmaster tuned up and it's now working nicely. The company was very helpful, a shame that more companies don't have this attitude. They put real meaning in the "service" part of customer service.
