Good afternnon everyone!
I am pretty new to working with hand tools. I worked for a year in a small shop, so I do have a bit knowledge. I pretty much only have a 5 1/2 bench plain and a dovetail saw ( as well as marking and measuring tools) I have a bunch or wormy chestnut that my father in-law gave me and I just want to make a magazine rack. Now all the pieces are about 5/8 inches thick . Is it possible to thickness these to the same size . I want to dovetial the pieces and I worrk that I will have issues if the pieces are shave or so different. Or am I just overthinking it and should just do it.. Z

Yes, your plane will do that if you need it too.

You may have to change the setting on your marking gauge if the boards are significantly different or you may have slightly different amounts of proudness on different sets of protruding tails and pins, but overall it is no big deal.
Is it possible to thickness these to the same size . Yes and why? Old stuff I have seen are NOT the same sizes. Close but not ALL exactally the same.
If you have access to something old, well made and hand made.. Just try to interchange drawers!
